These Terms and Conditions will apply to any contract between us for the provision of services by us to you (Contract). Please read these Terms carefully and make sure that you understand them, before ordering any services from us. Take note please, that before requesting a service you will be asked to agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you refuse to accept these Terms, you will not be able to order any services from us.
You should retain a copy of these Terms and Cnditions, if necessary, by printing them (or save them to your computer) for future reference.
We amend these Terms and Conditions from time to time as set out in clause 7. Every time you wish to place an order for services, please check these Terms to ensure you understand the Terms which will apply at that time. These Terms and Conditions were most recently updated in June 2023.
Our Terms and Conditions, and any Contract between us, are only in the English language.
1. About Us
SmartFix Edinburgh provides diagnostic, repair, and maintenance services for consumer electronic devices.
By using our services, you agree to the terms outlined below.
2. Diagnostic Fee
A diagnostic fee (currently £45) is charged when a device is booked in.
This fee:
- Covers the time, labour, and expertise required to assess and identify faults
- Is payable whether or not you proceed with the repair
- Is non-refundable once diagnostic work has commenced
By proceeding with our services, you acknowledge and accept this fee.
3. Repair Process
- Once a device has been diagnosed, a repair quote will be provided
- No repair work will be carried out without customer approval
- If you choose not to proceed, no further charges will apply beyond the diagnostic fee
4. Pricing & Estimates
- Any initial price indications are estimates only
- Final repair costs may vary depending on parts required and findings during diagnosis
- We will always confirm revised pricing before proceeding with repair
5. Cancellations
If you cancel your repair:
- After diagnosis → the diagnostic fee remains non-refundable
- After parts have been ordered → you may be liable for the cost of those parts
- After repair has begun → labour costs may be charged up to the agreed repair value
6. Data & Backups
Customers are responsible for backing up all data before submitting a device.
SmartFix:
- Accepts no responsibility for data loss or corruption
- Offers data backup services at additional cost upon request
7. Repair Risks
Some devices (including but not limited to tablets, sealed units, and certain laptops) require invasive procedures for diagnosis or repair.
By using our services, you accept:
- There is a risk of unavoidable damage during disassembly
- Additional faults may be discovered during diagnosis
- Quotes may change if further issues are identified
8. Turnaround Times
- All timeframes provided are estimates only
- Delays may occur due to parts availability, complexity, or supplier issues
9. Payment Terms
- Full payment is required before any device is returned
- We reserve the right to retain devices until payment is received in full
10. Uncollected Devices
- Devices not collected within 14 days may incur storage charges of £1.50 per day
- Devices left uncollected for more than 6 weeks without communication may be considered abandoned
- SmartFix reserves the right to dispose of abandoned devices to recover costs
11. Software & Operating Systems
If a repair requires system reset or reinstallation:
- Software (e.g. Microsoft Office, antivirus) may need to be reinstalled
- Customers are responsible for providing licenses and installation media
- SmartFix is not responsible for missing or lost software
12. Liquid Damage
Devices affected by liquid damage:
- May incur additional costs
- May have unpredictable or limited repair outcomes
- Are not guaranteed to be fully repairable
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SmartFix shall not be liable for:
- Loss of data, income, or business
- Indirect or consequential losses
- Pre-existing faults or undisclosed issues
- Any loss arising from failure to follow our advice or recommendations
14. Customer Agreement
By using our services, you confirm that:
You authorise SmartFix to carry out diagnostic work
You have read and understood these terms
You accept the non-refundable diagnostic fee
